Whalehead Club, Corolla, NC
The Whalehead Club in Corolla, North Carolina, is a 1920's era Art Nouveau style waterfowl hunting club that was restored in the 1990's. The 21,000 square foot mansion was built by wealthy industrialist Edward Collings Knight, Jr., and his wife, Marie Louise Lebel Bonat Knight in an area originally known as Currituck Beach, but which they renamed Corolla Island. It was ahead of its time for the area, featuring Tiffany lighting, and even an Otis elevator, and provided its own electricity and water. For more information, visit Visit Currituck and Wikipedia.
